ABOUT US

City Mission of Schenectady, founded in 1906, is dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. Our ministries are seeking to comprehensively meet the needs of the poor in a manner that dignifies and strengthens the individual, the family, and the community.

Our goal is to provide not only HELP for today, but HOPE for tomorrow. We want to help people who are in need right now by meeting basic needs like food, shelter and clothing. Providing these life essentials are at the core of who we are.

In addition, our hope is that we can do more than just meet basic needs… we want to transform lives. Together, we can help people begin to dream again and think about what they want their future story to look like.

We help those future stories come true by providing spiritual guidance, counseling, training, classes, life and job skills training and so much more!

We don’t receive government funding, so we couldn’t do any of this without the generous support of concerned individuals, churches and businesses.

The purpose of City Mission of Schenectady is to establish and maintain programs and ministries that address the physical, social and spiritual needs of the poor as well as those who are under-resourced.

Operation 5 Star is City Mission’s continuous improvement initiative that aims to display excellence in all we do. The value of this excellence is demonstrated with dignity and respect when the Core Values – 5 L’s – are executed and integrated in all that we do.

Love: We will be guided by our desire to love others self-sacrificially, extending the compassion of Christ by sharing their burdens.

Learn: We will seek to gain a better understanding of those we serve and allow this information to change our perspectives.

Listen: We will demonstrate our belief in the value of those we serve by intentionally seeking out their feedback and truly hearing their suggestions.

Lead: We will continuously improve our ministries based upon the information we gain from those we serve and other sources.

Lift: We will encourage and equip those we serve to participate in the leadership of our ministry and in society as a whole.
