Building Better Lives

Canino shares, “I remember standing outside the Men’s Center, contemplating if I could really do this. It brought a tear to my eye as I decided that this is what I would have to do in order to get better.”

When Canino arrived at the Mission, he was faced with the tough reality that he would have to truly change his life - his habits, his decisions, and his outlook - if he really wanted to get better. After struggling with addiction for many years, Canino was ready for his life to change.

Canino began the difficult process of rebuilding his life. He joined our long-term discipleship and life skills training program. He started to take better care of himself, in addition to listening to the testimonies of former residents. He also began to grow in his faith.

The Mission has helped me by bringing me closer to God and helping me to understand the Bible better. The purpose that God has for my life is a lot clearer.

CANINO, CITY MISSION RESIDENT

Today, Canino has a new hope for the future. In this picture, he stands near the same spot when he first came to the Mission. Then, he was standing with tears in his eyes … today, he has an infectious smile that he shares with those around him.

He is passionate about helping others. Canino shares,
“When I was out there in the streets, I was sharing the wrong things with others … so now that I’m doing better, I feel like it’s my responsibility to share my skills and knowledge with others. I can take that same energy and instead of using it for harm, I can use it to help others.”

In addition to serving around campus, Canino is currently attending classes to become an EMT. He shares, “It’s a challenging program, but I know I can make it happen. The Mission has been so supportive in this journey by giving me everything I could need.”

Canino has a special word for you, a City Mission partner, who helped to make this life transformation possible. “This program has changed my life. More importantly, you have shown me that God is real. I couldn’t see clearly before, but now my vision for the future is clear and my heart is set on doing what God has for me to do. I’m able to give back and help others,
because someone like you helped me.”

Thank You for investing in Canino and giving him, along with so many others, a chance to rebuild his life!
