From Uncertainty to Serving Others
Last holiday season, Vinnie was finding support and growth in the Bridges to Freedom program at City Mission but was unsure of what the future would hold.
“I wasn’t really sure what was going to happen next. There was anxiety about the next phase of life,” he recalled.
Over the past year, encouragement from staff and friends like you gave him hope and direction.
“People saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself,” Vinnie said. “When they trusted me with responsibilities, it made me want to work that much harder to prove I could be the person they believed I was.”
This holiday season, Vinnie is employed at City Mission and looking forward to serving others.
“Last season, I was receiving... Now, I get to give back. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, I get to serve the community and make residents feel special. That’s a real big deal.”
When asked what he’s most thankful for this year, Vinnie answered simply:
“Life. The quality of life is so much better. I don’t live in fear anymore. I know what I do isn’t to glorify myself, but to glorify God and to help people.”
And to the donors and volunteers who make stories like his possible, Vinnie shared:
“You save lives. It’s not just about paying bills—it’s about transforming lives. There are miracles that happen here every day, and it’s only because of you that this happens.”
